Located in the heart of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, on the Aquidneck Island Land Trust’s Sakonnet Greenway Trail, The Pennfield School is beautifully situated on 19 acres of what once was the Little Slocum Farm. The farmlands and fields are now playing fields, a school garden and open space. The barns, homes and out buildings have all been reclaimed and restored as faculty housing and special class-project spaces. Newly designed and constructed in 2004, our Schoolhouse building, which sits at the head of the Lane, is a stunning expression of traditional vernacular architecture mindfully planned to meet our everyday needs. Look carefully at our new Schoolhouse, and you’ll see elements of the old farm, barns and buildings that have been on the property for hundreds of years.
