After School

After SchoolWhen the school day ends, many students carry on to either the Extended Day classroom or participate in our sports or theater program. Children in grades Kindergarten – Grade 3, who participate in the Extended Day Program, complete their homework with supervision, read, do arts and crafts, and play outdoors. Extended Day students in Grades 4 – 8 gather in the library where, in small groups, they complete assignments and have use of the computer lab with permission.

Pennfield’s Upper School students also have the opportunity to participate in after-school sports each season – fall/soccer, winter/basketball, and spring/lacrosse. If additional players are needed, Fifth Graders can be encouraged to play on the B Team (good training ground for the A Team). Additionally, Third, Fourth and Fifth Graders can take part in a fall and spring all-sports program, which consists of soccer, flag football, capture the flag, and other fun games. This is a non-competitive, social outlet for this young group. In the winter, Fourth and Fifth Graders can be found catching a bus to a local bowling alley. Fifth through Eighth Graders are also invited to join in the afternoon theater program, which takes place during the spring term.

Students, when not in the Extended Day room or playing sports, can also be found getting ready for a Mock Trial Competition, meeting with teachers, assisting keeping score books and the clock at home games, and filling other roles around campus. The day of a Pennfield student does not stop when the bell rings at 3:00 p.m.
